Taking your family to Resava Cave requires some planning. The 45-to-60-minute guided tour takes you 80 meters underground. While older kids will enjoy the 45-million-year-old formations, the wet paths and cold air make it tougher for very young children.

Are there age restrictions for children?

There are no strict age limits, but caution is highly advised for infants and toddlers.

Children of all ages are allowed inside. Kids under seven pay 50 RSD for entry. Older students and children pay between 400 and 450 RSD. Adult tickets cost 500 to 700 RSD, depending on the season.

Is the cave path safe for toddlers?

The 800-meter path is entirely concrete but stays extremely slippery.

Humidity inside ranges from 80% to 100%. This moisture covers the ground and the long staircases. You will descend 80 meters to the lowest accessible point in the Lower Gallery. Small children require constant supervision on these wet stairs.

How cold is the cave for kids?

The cave temperature is always 7°C (45°F), even in the middle of summer.

You must bring warm winter jackets or heavy fleeces for your children. If you forget your coats, you can rent a jacket at the entrance for 100 RSD. Long pants are also highly recommended to keep kids warm during the tour.

What are the rules for children inside?

Kids must stay on the marked paths and cannot touch the formations.

Guided tours are mandatory. You cannot explore the cave unescorted. Touching the stalactites and stalagmites is strictly prohibited. Skin oils from hands will permanently stop the growth of the formations.

Leaving the path or wandering into unlit areas is forbidden for safety reasons.

What should families pack?

Focus on keeping your children warm and preventing slips.

Dress your kids in layers. Make sure they wear sturdy, non-slip walking shoes. Smooth-soled sneakers will slide on the wet steps. Bring a small backpack to carry extra layers or water.

Are there family-friendly tours from Belgrade?

Several guided day trips welcome families, removing the stress of driving.

A guided tour from Belgrade takes 10 to 12 hours. This is a long day for young kids, but it is stress-free for parents. These tours usually include Resava Cave, Manasija Monastery, and Lisine Waterfall. Prices run from €60 to over €100 per person.
